Residency & Presentation

Brilliance, Resistance, and Non-Binary Perspectives from Upper Silesia and the Ruhr Region

In Upper Silesian, ‘Dindać’ refers to the social gathering after mass – a bit of a smoke, a bit of a chat, just hanging out together. A German translation might be ‘chatting’. So come along, hang out, and have a natter with the Non-binary House of Upper Silesia. There’s coffee, Silesian poppy seed cake, and loads to chat about.

The Non-binary House of Oberschlesien (PL/DT) opens its residency as a public community format. Filipka Rutkowska and Kamill Lippa present their artistic work on a non-binary Upper Silesia—between nations, languages, and shifting belongings. An immersive installation translates this in-between space into sound, memory, and queer presence, making the region’s “non-binary potential” sensorially tangible.

Dindác
is the Upper Silesian version of a coffee gathering—reimagined here as a performative setting: a collective space for thinking and experience, where exchange between the Ruhr region and Upper Silesia, personal memory, and shared storytelling intersect. Informal conversations meet intergenerational dialogue; queer lived realities encounter regional history. The starting point of the residency is Tubi Malcharzik’s artistic research on non-binarity rooted in Upper Silesia—both in relation to gender and in the context of national borders—as well as the desire to approach these questions from a collective trans*femme perspective.

The residency is a cooperation with the Zwischen Schichten Festival, taking place at the Prinz Regent Theater in 2027.
