General

Our approach

We are working on improving our accessibility, both on our homepage and for the festival programme and on-site visits.

General information and an overview of accessibility measures at the festival can be found on this page. We hope that sorting all event information according to the categories ‘Movement", ‘Sight’, ‘Hearing’ as well as ‘Comprehension+Perception’ provides a good overview. This is a simplified representation and we can only proactively respond to examples from each feature group. If you have any specific questions, please contact us.

On the event pages, we successively compile those accessibility details that are relevant for this specific event. For some events content notes and notes on sensory stimuli are also available. Hopefully this will enable you to make an individual assessment of whether you would like to attend the event. Specific information is not available for all events. You are welcome to contact us if you are planning your visit and have questions about parts of the programme or festival procedures.

We would like to cater for individual requirements for a festival visit (seating, early boarding, pick-up from public transport, etc.) as best we can.

As a festival team, we have irregular working hours, so our availability is not guaranteed at fixed office hours:

Tickets

For festival tickets, you and your companion can choose to pay a minimum price of €6 per ticket. Please select which price you can and wish to pay.

Assistance on site/pick-up service

If you require a pick-up service from the nearest public transport stop or car park, please contact us before your visit at the festival.

Digital Accessibility

We have not currently implemented any adaptation options for contrast, font size and similar in our homepage structure. If the default settings are not sufficient for you, we ask that you, as a visitor to our homepage, use the tools that already work best for you. You can use your own screen reader and other tools or use the operating aids of your standard browser (zoom, contrast, read-aloud function). If there are any problems with the display or conflicts when using these tools, please let us know.

The contents of the homepage are continuously updated and can be changed. We endeavour to make all content available in two senses and to provide alternative texts or transcriptions.

So far, we have not been able to develop any content in easy or simple language or in sign language.

We have not yet been able to implement any measures for our social media presence.

To further work on impoving our accessibility we would be delighted to receive your feedback. Please contact us if we have forgotten anything or if you have any questions or comments.

Movement

Festival venues

The structural accessibility for wheelchair users and people with walking aids is different for each festival venue. In the venue overview, we have compiled brief information on accessibility (ground level, lifts, WC) as well as distances to the car park and public transport.

If you are missing any information or are unsure, please contact us in advance.

Audience situation

At most events there is unallocated Seating. You have free choice of seats. If you have specific seating requirements, please let us know when you buy your ticket - we can then take this into account on site.

In deviation from this, there are different audience situations at the following events in particular:

Dates in the festival

18.6.-5.7., Victoria Halper & Kai Krösche (DARUM), [EOL]. End of Life“, Mülheim an der Ruhr

It is a VR performance for which visitors move individually in a defined part of the room. There is no seating available during the visit.

19.-20.6., hannsjana, Tyrannosaurus Regina“, Park am Ringlokschuppen Ruhr

It is an audio walk with performative interventions. The path leads through the MüGa Park at the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr. The ground conditions in the park are very different, including paved paths, lawns and steps.

4.-6.7., Studio Urbanistan, „Somewhere there's war“, Musterhaussiedlung Düsseldorf

This is a performative walking tour through a model housing estate. On the tour, you will go to the individual houses in small groups and climb stairs to visit all the stations. The starting point of the tour is reached by travelling together by shuttle bus.

There are fixed seats in Depot 1 at Schauspiel Köln. You can select the seats yourself when purchasing your online ticket. For wheelchair spaces or if the seats available online are not accessible to you, please contact us. We will try to find an individual solution.

Sight

Guidance systems

Impulse Festival is visitor to various venues with its events. Most of them do not currently have a tactile guidance system installed.

At the FFT Düsseldorf, in KAP 1, there is a guidance system from the building entrance and for using the lift. The guidance system is not continued within the theatre spaces (counter, foyer, stages).

Please contact us in advance for the possibility of a pick-up service or assistance on site.

Introduction and audio description for blind and visually impaired people

A live audio description is available in German. You can access the audio description via a wireless headset system provided on site. Only a limited number of devices is available, please let us know that you require this when you purchase your ticket.

Before the performance, there will be a pre-access tour in German to familiarise you with the space and the dance style. The tour lasts approximately 20-30 minutes and starts 60 minutes before the performance begins. Meeting point is in the foyer of Schauspiel Köln.

Please let us know when buying your ticket that you would like to attend the tour - then we can prepare the tour in accordance to the number of participants.

3.+4.7., Claire Cunningham, „Songs of the Wayfarer“, FFT Düsseldorf (DE+EN)

A pre recorded audio description is available in German and English. You can access the audio description via a wireless headset system provided on site. Only a limited number of devices is available, please let us know that you require this when you purchase your ticket. You can bring and use your own headphones as long as they have a mini-jack connection.

Before the performances, there will be - according to demand - a pre-access tour in English to familiarise you with the space, costumes and specifics. The tour lasts approximately 20-30 minutes and starts 90 minutes before the performance begins. Meeting point is in the foyer of FFT Düsseldorf.

Please let us know when buying your ticket that you would like to attend the tour - then we can prepare the tour in accordance to the number of participants.

If you require a German translation of the tour, please contact us before purchasing your ticket so that we can check for availability accordingly.

Hearing

German Sign Language Interpretation (SLI)

The translation into German sign language will take place in an interpreting team, with a deaf performer and a interpreter: Dodzi Dougban and Sarena Bockers.

Some seats are better suited to follow the SLI. Details on site, before the show.

Acoustic amplification via induction for visitors with hearing aids

Schauspiel Köln offers a WLAN-based hearing system (Sennheiser Mobile Connect) with which you can use hearing assistance in Depot 1. This works with your own smartphone (or a loanable iPod) plus a hearing aid, cochlear implant, headphones or with the help of a loanable induction loop and a hearing aid with T-function. A detailed description can be found here on the Schauspiel Köln website (only in German). Please let us know if you need this when you buy your ticket.

3.+4.7., Claire Cunningham, „Songs of the Wayfarer“, FFT Düsseldorf

The stages of the FFT Düsseldorf are equipped with an inductive hearing system, which is used as standard for all productions.
Reception extends up to row 3, so please choose your seat accordingly. Unfortunately, the inductive hearing system cannot be used in the tier. Feel free to indicate your seating requirements when purchasing your ticket.

In order to use the inductive hearing system, the hearing aid must be switched to T or M/T. Further information on how this works in detail can be obtained from your hearing aid acoustician, as these settings vary depending on the indicidual device; the T coil must be activated.

As soon as the hearing aid is set to ‘induction loop’ (i.e. T or M/T), it will receive the magnetic field and the audio signal will be transmitted to the hearing aid wearer.

5.+6.7., Jen Rosenblit, „ElseWhere Rhapsody“, FFT Düsseldorf

The stages of the FFT Düsseldorf are equipped with an inductive hearing system, which is used as standard for all productions.

Subtitling of the stage language / little spoken language

Many of the events at the festival are very text-heavy. Supertitles and subtitles are mainly used to translate the language - German to English or English to German. The following events use little spoken language or have accompanying surtitles for spoken language.

The dance piece uses very little spoken English, the understanding of which is not crucial for attending the event. There is also the option of acoustic amplification by means of induction (see above).

The play uses English spoken language and is subtitled in both English and German. There is also the option of acoustic amplification by means of induction (see above).

Comprehension + Perception

Language (German and English)

Most festival information and showcase events are understandable in German and English, through spoken language or translations in writing. To this end, the Impulse Festival works with surtitling in the stage area, subtitling via mobile phone or smartglasses and text slips.

A limited number of devices are available for loan on site for translation with mobile phones and Smartglasses. Please let us know that you require this when you purchase your ticket.

Easy Reading

So far, we have not been able to organise any events for the festival that are specifically and tested to be understandable as an "easy read".

Relaxed Performance

The ethos of this show is relaxed. In this case, this means:

  • Audience members are free to come and go throughout the performance.
  • There is a separate quiet room which is accessible during the performance, as well as approx. 30 minutes before and after.
  • Audience members can feel free to stim and vocalise in a way that is safe to them.
  • A box of access tools for the audience is provided in the foyer before the show. Including ear defenders, stim toys and dark glasses.
  • At the beginning of the performance, Claire will introduce the loudest and quietest, and brightest and darkest moments in the show.
  • There are a range of seating options including cushions, beanbags and hard backed chairs on stage.

Pre-boarding is available for any patrons, particularly disabled guests, who may wish to enter and acclimatise to the space earlier.

Content Notes und sensory stimuli

Notes on potentially sensitive content and information on sensory stimuli can give away parts of a piece.

Some artists provide information about the content of the piece in advance to enable you to make an individual assessment of whether you would like to attend the event. Please contact us if you do not have the information you need to plan your visit.
