Collage and Talk
As part of their research, writer and theatre practitioner lynn t musiol explores experiences of social uncertainty that manifested as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing influence of institutions, academia and political elites. Viruses such as COVID-19 or HIV are seen not only as a medical reality but also as a metaphor for means of dissemination: of fear and control, as well as of solidarity, dissent and collective agency.
In Bochum, lynn t musiol scrutinises the history of lesbian activism and lesbian movements for practices of resistance and explores how marginalised experiences can be gathered, preserved and mobilised to become political knowledge. In Saxony-Anhalt, their focus is on resistance practices within citizens’ initiatives and the environmental movement. Through interviews, archival research and the gathering of personal accounts, “Blutschwestern” – a term derived from the blood sisters who volunteered in America during the AIDS pandemic – creates a collage of different generations and contexts in both East and West. The research traces the pathways on which experiences, strategies and attitudes circulate – and examines how forms of “contagious” resistance emerge, spread, and initiate new spheres of influence.
Within the framework of the network funding by the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the OSTEN Festival Bitterfeld-Wolfen and the Impulse Festival are cooperating and exchanging experiences of transformation in East and West. In two artistic residencies between Saxony-Anhalt and the Ruhr region, Mandy Unger and lynn t musiol are researching former workplaces as well as queer and civic practices of resistance.
