Securitisation, Austerity, and Culture
Following the inputs and the exchange “not ready/nicht bereit” by the international artists’ network The Embassy & Guests, and in advance of the guest performance “Songs of (In)security” from Chemnitz, the topic of “Militarization, Security, and Culture” will be continued in a discussion at FFT in Düsseldorf.
Sociologist Teresa Koloma Beck provides an overview of the current public debate in Germany surrounding militarisation and rearmament in the context of long-standing trends towards the ‘securitisation’ of society. In the ensuing discussion with Franziska Werner, artistic director of the Impulse Festival, and the moderator Joshua Wicke (dramaturg of the Impulse Festival until January 2026), the implications of these developments for the independent performing arts and the wider arts and culture sector will be explored.
