Sheena McGrandles is choreographer and dancer based in Berlin. Originally from Northern Ireland, she grew up in a working-class family with little access to dance training, learning ballet from books and television before securing a place at the Laban Centre London. She later completed the MA Solo Dance Authorship (SODA) at HZT / UdK Berlin with an excellence scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation and was selected for the eight-month residency at K3, Kampnagel. Since 2010, she has lived and worked in Berlin. Her practice is hybrid and extends beyond the stage, encompassing choreography, performance, teaching, mentoring, curating, and long-term collaborative and infrastructural work. Alongside her artistic practice, she is active in artist-led collectives such as PSR and neue häute / agora, which develop grassroots, non-hierarchical spaces for body-based practices and local exchange.

Venue information

Spatial Access

The event will take place at the FFT Düsseldorf. The FFT is located on the first floor of KAP1. You can reach the first floor directly by lift. The floor is indicated in Braille and via tactile markings on the buttons. The lift only stops on the first floor during regular opening hours (from one hour before each event).

The doors at the FFT are not self-opening and some are very heavy. If you need assistance getting around the building, please feel free to speak to us on site or contact us in advance. Once you are on the first floor, the foyer and event rooms are accessible at ground level. In Stage 1, there is a gallery which is only accessible via a staircase from the foyer.

The toilets are accessible at ground level; a wheelchair-accessible toilet is also available and is located between the other toilet cubicles.

Distances

Paid car park approx. 170 metres away (UFA Palast).
Distance to “Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof” approx. 150 metres. Depending on the mode of transport and platform, the station has lifts and escalators. Current information on services is available at bahnhof.de.

Audience Situation

Seated public gallery with free seating. A limited number of wheelchair and beanbag seats are available. We offer early boarding.
Please let us know your requirements when purchasing tickets. We can then take this into account on the day.

Guidance System

At FFT Düsseldorf, in KAP 1, there is a guidance system from the building entrance and to the lifts. The guidance system does not extend into the theatre spaces (box office, foyer, stages). Please feel free to contact us in advance to arrange a pick-up service or on-site assistance.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome at the festival. Due to the different venues and event formats, we kindly ask you to get in touch with us in advance.

The dance piece uses very little spoken English; understanding it is not essential for attending the performance.

Assistive listening (induction loop)

The stages at FFT Düsseldorf are equipped with an induction loop system, which is used as standard for all productions. In raised seating areas, reception is available up to row 3, so please choose your seat accordingly (unfortunately, the induction loop is not available in the balcony). Please indicate your seating requirements when purchasing your ticket.

To use the induction loop, your hearing aid must be set to “T” or “M/T”. For further details on how to do this, please consult your hearing care professional, as settings vary depending on the device. Activation of the T-coil is required.

Once the hearing aid is set to “induction loop” (T or M/T), it will receive the magnetic field and the audio signal will be transmitted to the user.

Tickets

For festival tickets, you may choose the reduced price at your own discretion. Admission for one accompanying person is free of charge. To obtain a free ticket for an accompanying person, please use the code BEGLEITUNG when booking. Please decide yourself which price you are able and wish to pay.

One hour before the performance begins, audience members are invited to a 30-minute introduction that prepares them physically and sensually for the evening. Developed in cooperation with students of the Master’s programme in Dance Education at the Centre for Contemporary Dance (Cologne University of Music and Dance), it welcomes participants of all ages, with or without movement experience.
