States of bewilderment
Performance
“States of Bewilderment reveals in an intimate manner how two bodies get ever closer until they melt into each other. Their work evokes playfulness, sensuality and a certain kind of sisterhood. (…) a wonderful success and an invitation to continue following the work of these two dancers.”
Samuel Golly, Le Courrier, 04.11.2025
A tense work that explores the relationship between bodies, oscillating vulnerability,
confusion, and power.
As if pulling a thread from a ball of wool, “States of bewilderment” stretches systems out of one another. Choreographer Alina Arshi from Lausanne has already toured Switzerland, Italy, France and the UK with her bachelor’s degree show “Entepfuhl”. Now, together with dancer Juliette Uzor, she brings her latest piece to the stage, a performance full of contrasts and consequential decisions: a space filled with tension is created between isolation and extreme closeness, immobility and intense expression. What role does our gaze play in the events controlled by the two dancers themselves? Where does power arise, where does vulnerability? Tiny shifts in everyday situations expose a desperate togetherness in the hierarchy in this choreography, which captures the naked body as both concrete and abstract, and topples familiar images. In a performance from which it is almost impossible to withdraw, notions of strength and weakness, madness and survival, agency and obligation, malice and lostness are put to the test.
