BRUCHOVRAVY Three Songs, Three Dishes
Dinner Performance
“The sensory experience is not limited to the sense of sight and hearing as is usual in a theatre (…). Because there actually is something to smell and taste in BRUCHOVRAVY.”
Lina Wölfel, Theater der Zeit, Juni 2025
A Slovakian dinner invitation, a multilingual concert, a space for mourning, presence,
community and delicious food.
“BRUCHOVRAVY” is a feast with musical compositions that combines the experience of good food with the discursive or poetic characteristics of contemporary art; it is initiated and directed by visual artist Dávid Koronczi. The title is a Slovak neologism that could perhaps be translated as “gut talks”. The project has been running since 2021 and unfurls in a different way in each location. In the Düsseldorf edition the space is given over to the traditions of funeral meals: a communal farewell to the world as we know it in three compositions, three dishes, three shared moments. The concert is multilingual – English, German, Hungarian, Slovak, Latin – and each song by opera singer Adriána Vančová, a.k.a. timmi, introduces the next course, which, like the musical works, are composed specially for the show by young head chef Pavol Žiška. What remains is a temporary community, convened in song and in the silence between courses. At the same time, aspects of transformation such as fermentation and composting appear as subtle metaphors for change – fragile processes in which decay and renewal coexist.
Afterwards, on 5 June: drinks and music, with DJ Kazunori Yoda
